5 Reasons You Want An Engagement Session

Have you been debating if engagement portraits should be a priority while planning your wedding day? In a word - YES!

Do I expect you to just take it on my word? Of course not, let’s look at the top 5 reasons engagement portraits are important to your overall experience.

1. Get Comfortable on Camera

Quick question - when was the last time you and your fiance were in front of the camera together?

Chances are one or both of you feels a bit awkward in front of the camera, never mind the bags of gear your professional photographer is going to be pointing your way on the wedding day, An engagement session is a great time to get comfortable being affection in public, to get to know your photographers style of directing, and to know what to expect on the wedding day.

2. Not All Images on your Walls in Gown & Tux

I am a huge fan of beautiful ladies in gorgeous gowns and dapper looking gents in their suit or tux. I was nothing but proud of how good my hubby looked in his tux on the wedding day. Heck, you can walk into my home and find those pictures proudly displayed in many rooms.

At the end of the day though, that’s not a true reflection of who we are as a couple on a day to day basis. So mixed in around our home you are also going to find wall art of our engagement portraits.

They add so much more to the story of who you are - together!

3. Less Pressure, More Fun & Flexibility

On your wedding day your friends and family are so excited and want to be a part of everything you are doing. Amazing!

But do you want that to be the first time you are in front of your photographers camera? No way! It’s already an exciting, and nerve wracking, day. You don’t want to feel rushed and self conscious when every one of your guests is trying to take photos and tag along on your bridal party and couples portraits too.

Let’s go have some fun when we have a lot more flexibility in the timing, the locations, and no big audience following you around.

4. Display the Images at Your Wedding

Want to get your guests even more excited?

Consider using your engagement photos on the wedding day. Display them in the entrance to your ceremony or reception. Decorate your cocktail hour. Or, my personal favourite, have a beautiful custom guest book made up with your favourite images for a one of a kind keepsake that’s more meaningful than just a book of lines for your guests on the big day and you for the rest of your lives!

5. Test run for the wedding day

On top of the flexibility it gives and the chance to get comfortable on camera, the engagement session is like a test run for your wedding day.

How does your photographer direct? What is most helpful for you?

Talk about a game changer on the wedding day - now you guys are on the same page and your photographer can help make the day more fun and exciting and way less nerve wracking.

Which type of images do you love most?

Now your photographer can capture more of these on the wedding day.

It’s a great way to know what to expect on the big day and opens up some great conversations.

So what’s your thoughts? Will you be booking an engagement session?
