There's More to choosing a Photog Than Pretty Pictures
Why personality matters with your photographer
(and other wedding vendors you spend the most time with)
You would think, as a photographer and artist myself, I would be an advocate of letting our work speak for ourselves. After all our photographs are our product, our medium, our art.
But against the grain I am going to have to disagree.
Yes, the work is important. No one wants crappy photos of one of the most important events of their lives. You spend months, sometimes years planning your big day…it should be captured beautifully!
Once you’ve checked that their work is up to a standard that is acceptable or beyond, your next stop is NOT their pricing.
What the heck does it matter if you can afford them if being in their presence stresses you or grates on your nerves in some way?
What about if their ideas and vision doesn’t line up?
What about if their ideals go against yours?
Can a true professional still work under any of the above - of course!
But wouldn’t you rather spend your big day with someone by your side who sees you, understands you, supports you and just generally feels more like a friend then a hired hand?
Photographers are one of the few vendors for your big day that spends the most time with you.
All throughout the day they are by your side. Capturing moments. Sharing your joy. Telling your story.
Some vendors join you for part of the day…dropping off their creations, performing a service for part of your day, and then they are gone again.
But some vendors are there with you all day, like photographers, videographers and planners.
On an average wedding day these folks spend 8, 10, or even more hours with you bringing your vision to life and making it the best it can be. They have a huge impact on how you feel about your day and how you remember it too.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a call, a zoom, or a coffee date to see how you feel spending time and having conversations with them. Believe me. You will thank yourself for it later.
