This fall I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing this beautiful couple, Rachel & Taylor, among the beautiful fall colours near their home in the Kitchener Waterloo area. As part of their engagement portraits they wanted to include to very important furry friends…their pups!

Here to share their story are Rachel and Taylor themselves!

In Their Words…

How long have you known each other?

6 years

How did you meet?

We were introduced by a mutual friend who invited us both to the same party. (Taylor: In those first conversations, as I lay on Rachel's lap, we had more chemistry than anyone I had ever met before.) Rachel left before Taylor had the chance to ask for her number, so he had to get it from the mutual friend. He took her out for gourmet grilled cheeses and board games later that week (Taylor: it was the snowiest day of the year, but I didn't care because I knew Rachel was special and worth it), we spent the entire night talking, and we even had our first kiss that night. (Taylor: our first kiss was super awkward because I thought it was a hug, and Rachel was going in for a kiss. Still, awkward kiss and all, I had "butterflies" in my stomach and couldn't wait to tell my mom and best friends.)

When did you know your fiance was 'the one'?

Rachel - I guess I knew he was the one I wanted to marry when he drove me to my summer job in Hamilton from Kitchener, made it halfway back to Kitchener, and then came back to Hamilton to stay with me another night because I was having a bad day.

Taylor - I knew I loved Rachel when I was away in Korea for a couple of weeks a few years ago. She was always on my mind, and though I was enjoying my time there immensely, I couldn't wait to be back with her. Pinpointing when I knew Rachel was "the one" is more difficult. I know now, but I couldn't say it's due to a specific moment. Instead, I would say I know she's the one because every time I look at her or think about her, it feels like the first time. And the first time was pretty special.

What is your favourite thing about your fiance?

Rachel - Taylor has always given me 100% of his heart and I feel that every day. Regardless of whether he's frustrated that I made a mess.

Taylor - Her cheeks, specifically her dimples. Her personality and sense of humour is also pretty great, I guess, but those cheeks!

What do you love to do together?

We love to explore new things together, scope out spots for eating, drinking, having a good time, and finding friends along the way. We love hosting board game nights with friends, and of course, you can't forget about cuddling with the dogs and binging that new show on Netflix. We also love travelling together but haven't yet gotten to visit together most of the places we'd like to. Those include: Japan, Korea, Spain, France, Italy, and more.

What are you most looking forward to for your big day?

We are looking forward to bringing our families together to talk, eat, drink, and celebrate the joining of our two families and the beginning of our married future together.

What was your favourite part of having your portraits taken?

Getting to see someone else's perspective on our relationship and capturing us together in a genuine way.
